Barcelona sent Alena to Getafe on loan for the rest of season

Barcelona and Getafe CF have reached an agreement for the loan of midfielder Carles Aleñá for the remainder of the campaign, as Getafe will be the one taking over the player’s wages.

The Barca academy product spent the second half of 2019-20 on loan with Real Betis and seem074ed to struggle establishing himself under Ronald Koeman since returning ahead of this season.

The 23-year-old has played 43 games for the Barcelona first team and scored three goals. Currently, Aleñá has made five appearances for the first team this season, twice in La Liga, one in the Champions League, and only one of those coming from the start.

Koeman confirmed on Tuesday that Aleñá was close leaving Camp Nou on a temporary basis after Getafe president Angel Torres disclosed the interest of the club. Barcelona then announced on their official website on Wednesday that the deal pushed through.

“Alena is a player for the future that has to play,” said Koeman on Tuesday. “He has decided to look for an exit.”

Aleñá will join Getafe that are sitting at the 16th spot in the Liga standings, and could make his debut when they take in a trip to Elche on Sunday. He will also play with his former La Masia teammate Marc Cucurella, who has enjoyed success since moving to the Azulones.
