Denmark qualifies for World Cup 2022 with win over Austria

Denmark join Germany and became the second European nation to qualify in the 2022 World Cup following a 1-0 win against Austria. The Danes are top of qualifying Group F with a seven-point lead over second-placed Scotland and a 100% record after winning all of their qualifying games. “It means a lot, it’s one of the coolest nights in the Park in a long time. It is fantastic. It’s strong for us to win here, and we got this ticket to the World Cup,” Maehle said in an interview after the game. Denmark has scored 27 goals and conceded none so far in World Cup qualifying. They are followed by second-place Scotland with 17 points and Israel with 13 points to be third in the group.

Earlier, Germany became became the first European team to qualify for the tournament through the qualifiers after crushing North Macedonia 4-0 away to secure top spot in Group J with two games to spare. The goals all came in the second half, with Timo Werner scoring twice to help seal the qualification for the German. They are set to join host Qatar at the 2022 World Cup.

Elsewhere, Portugal thrashed Luxembourg 5-0 in a Group A, but remain second as Serbia top Group A with the 17 points in seven matches. Portugal have 16 points in six games. In a Group I match, Hungary and England shared spoils 1-1 at London’s Wembley. Poland, currently top the Group I table, will take on Andorra and then Hungary to conclude the group stage.
