Indian Premier League 2021 to Resume in UAE With Fans Back In The Stands

Indian Premier League 2021 to Resume in UAE With Fans Back In The Stands

COVID-19’s spread cut the previous season of the IPL short in early May after a number of players tested positive. However, the 12BET cricket betting online-listed league is set to resume on September 19 to allow the 31 matches left for the season to play out in a ‘biosphere bubble’. Play resumes with the Chennai Super Kings set to play the Mumbai Indians in Dubai.

The Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) confirmed this after tournament organizers confirmed in May that the tournament would’ve been completed in the UAE. Even then, an exact date has not been provided until they confirmed the September resumption. In a tweet from the organization, it was also confirmed that the final will be taking place in 15th October.

Stadiums to Give Way to Fans Who Want to Watch the Games

The 14th edition of the VIVO IPL 2021 will also give way to fans who wants to watch the live games. With this being said, there is still a limited number of spectators that will be allowed into stadiums at the match between the Super Kings and the Indians.

The situation in India has given way to the shift to the UAE as a neutral ground for the resumption of hostilities. The Indians are the current title holders and five-time league champions, while the Super Kings are three-time IPL champions. The match venue is at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, where fans will be welcomed back after the said hiatus.

Health Advisories in Place

The league board has decided to take precautions to avoid any incidents related to COVID-19. They have released a 46-page health advisory detailing rules which everyone—spectator and player—needs to follow to ensure things running smoothly during the games.

13 matches are set to be played in Dubai, with 10 being disputed in Sharjah while 8 will be played in Abu Dhabi. The first qualifying match will be held in October 10, with the Eliminator following the next day. The second qualifying match will be held on October 13 while the Finals are set on October 15.

The Rest of the Field

While the Super Kings and the Indians open the hostilities, other matches that follow soon after are between the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Royal Challengers, which will take place in Sharjah. The schedules are set to allow for England’s scheduled summer Test series with India. This series is expected to go five games and will be held at Old Trafford, with players in the league expected to take a direct flight from the UK to the UAE.

A World Cup Situation

While the new schedule allows for a Test between England and India to proceed, that doesn’t mean that they’re out of the woods. The end of the 12BET cricket betting-listed IPL and the start of the T20 World Cup will clash with the beginning of the Caribbean Premier League, leaving just one week in between.

England has quite the number of players in the IPL. Captain Eoin Morgan is joined by Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes, Chris Jordan, Sam Billings, and Tom and Sam Curran. Rounding out the list of the English nationals are Jos Buttler, Jonny Bairstow, Dawid Malan, and Jason Roy.
