Ligue 1 Matches: PSG, Marseille Figure in Football Classic “without” Neymar, Messi

Paris Saint-Germain figured in a battle royale with Marseille, where the soccer live score ended in favor of a draw at the Stade Velodrome. The Le Classique was not without drama, as PSG managed to escape despite finishing the match with only 10 men.

Defender Achraf Hakimi’s red card actually gave Marseille an opportunity to get back at PSG, but they weren’t up to the task. The game was filled with drama, where every VAR call was contested and the crowds were out for blood, calling for the other team’s heads in cheers.

The Game, As It Unfolded

PSG was in the thick of things—or so they thought. 14 minutes into the game, Neymar fired a shot at Luan Peres which ended up in the back of the net. A VAR review overturned that, turning the game ugly. The call during the football match was an extremely tight offside.

A little while later, Marseille had the same experience. They believed that Arkadiusz Milik’s header from a Dimitri Payet free kick was onside. It was also adjudged offside at the near side, which Pol Lirola’s low cross was found to be.

The stadium erupted and fans were throwing objects into the pitch. The football match had to be stopped for a few minutes.

It Could’ve Ended a Draw Either Way

An entertaining though from the VAR reviews was that PSG and Marseille could’ve ended up as winners either way. Both thought they had scored the first goal, with Neymar’s shot finding the net via Peres’ missed deflection and Hakimi through an offside cross from Lirola.

Hakimi didn’t complain at all about his sending off, while the game was as entertaining as a classic between the two traditional rivals would be. The result was still on the side of PSG, though. They could’ve conceded the match, but instead, they end up on top courtesy of this Marseille draw with seven points.

The Man of the Match – Luan Peres

While the Ligue 1 standings for PSG remain unchanged, Marseille should celebrate their lone bright spot—man of the match Luan Peres.

Peres’ Marseille career had seen a lot, but this game could’ve gone a different direction if his botched deflection stayed on. He was magnificent in defense, however, and he helped his team brave the onslaught from a fighting PSG team.
