Following the controversial interview, Romelu Lukaku issued an apology to Chelsea fans and officials “for the upset” as his comments draw flak. Earlier, Lukaku said in a recorded interview that he was “not happy” with his current situation at the London club. “I am sorry for the upset I have caused,” he told Chelsea TV. “You guys know the connection I have to the club and I totally understand you guys being upset. I should have been much clearer in my message. The Belgium international played for Italian club Inter Milan, led them to their title-winning success last season before signing for Chelsea for a club-record fee of $131 million. Following this move, Inter fans questioned his decision especially that he reaffirmed his commitment to Serie A champions prior to signing. In the same video, Lukaku also apologized to the officials and Tuchel. “I think I should have been clearer in my message. The interview was about saying goodbye to the Inter fans. As result, Tuchel dropped him from the Chelsea squad for their Premier League draw against Liverpool. The German boss also revealed that Lukaku will be fined by the club for the unapproved interview. “There will be some discipline action of course and he will accept it, of course,” Tuchel said in an interview. “But something happened and he will be fined — he needs to accept it.”
