World Cup Friendlies 2022: Germany Seeks Friendlies With Netherlands and Italy, to Host Israel

The road to Qatar 2022 has become a little bit interesting and Germany is beginning to load its arsenal. In preparation for the World Cup 2022, the country is seeking friendlies from its fellow countries. Aside from England, Italy, and possibly the Netherlands, it has also asked Israel to help fine-tune its preparation.

The post, as seen on an official release from the Deutscher Fußball-Bund (DFB), said that the Israel match would happen in the upcoming international break. The two sides had already met in 2012, when André Schürrle and ex-Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez propelled Die Mannschaft to a 2-0 win in Leipzig.

Previous Plans Not Pushing Through

The original plan was for the team to face South Africa according to recent reports. However, the German FA settled for a FIFA World Cup 2022 friendly with Israel, due to concerns related to the pandemic. The COVID-19 virus is still wreaking havoc in South Africa due to the Omicron variant.

This friendly gives Germany’s manager Hansi Flick enough time to experiment with his squad. The team is currently 30 to 35 players strong, with Flick expected to trim it down to what would be his “best lineup” for the tournament.

Flick Praised for Bringing Normalcy

In Flick’s case, DFB head Oliver Bierhoff couldn’t be happier with how the former Bayern manager has handled the team thus far. He cited him specially for bringing back the team’s confidence and for helping develop a new identity.

12BET Sportsbook fans might recall how Joachim Low handled Germany in the past, but Flick is noted for bringing different coaches to focus on specific areas that need work. Low, whom Bierhoff calls ‘Jogi’, had a smaller team before, as the manager recalled; the league, meanwhile, also reacted positively to all the changes that Flick had started.

The Future Will Decide

In any case, Flick will have to prove how his plans work through the friendlies. After Israel, Germany might take on the Netherlands in their second friendly football match. The DFB has also reportedly fielded ‘inquiries’ from UEFA Nations League neighbors Spain and England. With Germany drawing England in the group, it is expected that Die Mannschaft will instead face off with Louis Van Gaal’s Holland.
